Welcome to Voices for Independence


After a review of critical issues facing Voices for Independence (VFI), the following three areas were identified as the most important focus for the efforts of VFI over the next two to three years. For each of the three areas, a number of strategic initiatives/approaches were identified.

We are asking for your feedback and comments about these areas. Below each section are some questions which will help us learn about your interests, needs, priorities and expectations for VFI.

PROMOTING CONSUMER EMPOWERMENT

  • Develop activities/programs that will attract consumers and get them involved in advocacy and other IL related efforts
  • Reach out to consumers where they live
  • Develop relevant education (skills and information) programs
  • Enhance peer counseling/connecting efforts
  • Develop programs to help consumers deal with attendants/do attendant training
  • Conduct focus groups on core services
  • Expand staff development efforts related to IL

DIVERSIFICATION OF FUNDING

  • Identify a proportion of the Executive Director's workload to be devoted to fund development activities
    • Contract with a grant writer as needed
    • Nurture relationships with grant makers
  • Recruit Board members with development expertise/contacts
  • Pull together a group of knowledgeable advisors
  • Explore other governmental funding sources

  • Standardize procedures to assure consistency and clarity
  • Develop standards for service
  • Articulate consumer rights and responsibilities (review Organization Values and Operational Values)
  • Develop consumer liasion staffing position/phone check-in
